Blenheim Palace

As a photographer and keen walker I make the most of the good weather. Despite thunderstorms being forecast I travelled to Blenheim Palace in Woodstock on 31st July for a walk around the estate. There is restoration work being carried out on the roof with lots of scaffolding being erected to facilitate this. However, it provides an opportunity for visitors to gain access to the roof, all of 109 steps up to be eyeball to eyeball with some of the statues. I believe this is only until 2026 when the work should have been completed so if you are planning to visit Blenheim then you have a limited chance to follow in my footsteps.

As a family we paid a recent visit to Edinburgh to celebrate my sister’s 80th birthday. It was a total surprise as she had no idea we were travelling north to have lunch with her and her immediate family.

Oxford in Lockdown

In late October I paid a visit to Oxford, my first since last year. Despite it being half term the city was not really that busy. Tourist numbers were much less than usual and I was able to photograph landmarks without waiting for people to move out of shot. Here is a selection of images from my outing.

Deadman’s Walk just outside the old city wall of Oxford was the route taken by funeral processions for Jewish members of the community towards the Jewish burial grounds which at that time were outside the city walls. The route overlooks the playing fields of Christ Church School.
